What Injury Sidelines Prasidh Krishna from IPL 2024?

Rajasthan Royals’ pace bowler, Prasidh Krishna, has been sidelined from the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) edition, as confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in a recent statement.

The BCCI revealed that Krishna underwent surgery on February 23rd, 2024, to address a left proximal quadriceps tendon injury. This unfortunate turn of events has required him to be removed from the TATA IPL 2024 season.

Currently, Krishna is under the watch of the BCCI Medical Team, and he is expected to start rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy shortly.

Krishna’s absence carries significant importance, especially considering his notable contributions to the Rajasthan Royals squad in previous seasons.

His crucial role in guiding the franchise to the 2022 final, highlighted by an impressive tally of 19 wickets in 17 matches, emphasized his skill on the field. Consequently, his absence during the subsequent IPL 2023 season was deeply felt.

In his place, the team management selected for the seasoned campaigner Sandeep Sharma, acknowledging the necessity for an experienced replacement.

Prasidh Krishna was bought by the Rajasthan Royals for a huge Rs. 10 crore at the IPL 2022 auction. This shows how much the team was willing to pay to have him play for them.

Other teams also wanted him, which made the bidding competition tough. Keeping him for future seasons shows that the Rajasthan Royals trust him a lot and want him to be a big part of their team.

The last time Krishna was seen in action was during a Ranji Trophy match in early January, where he represented Karnataka against Gujarat.

Unfortunately, he sustained the injury during the first innings after securing two wickets for 62 runs in 14.5 overs. In addition to his IPL setbacks, Krishna faced challenges during his debut in Test cricket against South Africa, where he managed only two wickets in three innings, conceding runs at a rate of 4.64 per over.

His return to international white-ball cricket was equally challenging, with a high economy rate of 7.2 runs per over in the three ODIs he played since his comeback during the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka.

Despite his struggles, Krishna’s potential was evident in his T20I debut against Ireland in August 2023, where he claimed eight wickets in five matches.

However, his economy rate remained a concern, standing at 11 runs per over during the home series against Australia following the ODI World Cup.

In conclusion, Prasidh Krishna’s absence from IPL 2024 due to injury is a significant loss for the Rajasthan Royals, given his past contributions and high price tag at the auction.

Despite facing challenges in international cricket, his potential was evident, particularly in T20Is. The team will undoubtedly miss his presence on the field but remains hopeful for his swift recovery and return to form in future seasons.
