Indian Cricket Community Congratulates Jay Shah, who has been elected as the youngest Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Shah, who is 35, will officially assume the role on December 1 after being elected unopposed on Tuesday. He will succeed Greg Barclay, the current Chairman who chose not to seek a third consecutive two-year term. This makes Shah the fifth Indian to hold the top role in global cricket administration.

Following the news of Jay Shah’s election as the youngest Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on August 27, 2024, some of the major cricketing legends and top players from India have posted photos wishing him all the best for his new role. This reflects the respect and admiration Shah has earned in the cricket world.

The former cricketer, now the President of the BCCI, Binny Roger congratulated Jay Shah on becoming the ICC Chairman. He called Shah a “strong pillar” of the BCCI and praised him for bringing new ideas and improvements to cricket.

He expressed confidence that Shah’s leadership will continue to boost cricket globally, saying, “I am sure his vision and dedication will help cricket reach new levels and benefit players, fans, and everyone involved in the sport.”

Another Star All-rounder player, Hardik Pandya took to Twitter to congratulate Jay Shah on his election as the youngest Chairman of the ICC. He praised Shah’s vision and leadership, saying, “Congrats @JayShah bhai! Excited to see you take cricket to new heights. Your drive will benefit the ICC just as it did with the BCCI.” Pandya’s message highlights the cricket community’s confidence in Shah’s new role.

Former cricket player and coach Anil Kumble also extended his congratulations to Jay Shah on his election as the ICC Chairman. In his message, Kumble expressed excitement about the new chapter in global cricket, saying, “Congratulations @JayShah on your election as ICC Chair! Best wishes for the journey ahead!” Kumble took to Twitter later to share his supportive words, reflecting the cricket community’s confidence in Shah’s new role.

Gambhir, who has recently become the head coach of the Indian Cricket Team, shared his congratulations with Jay Shah. He said, “A big congratulations to you, @JayShah bhai! I’m confident that under your outstanding leadership, world cricket will see tremendous growth and progress. Your vision and guidance will truly make a difference!

Another Indian Cricket legend Ravi Shastri congratulated Jay Shah on being elected unopposed as the ICC Chairman, highlighting his historic achievement as the youngest to hold the position at just 35 years old.

Shastri praised Shah’s experience with the BCCI, expressing confidence that it will serve him well in his new role. He added, “The cricket community can rest assured that Jay will work tirelessly to help World Cricket and the ICC reach their full potential and elevate the sport to new heights.

Why was Jay Shah elected ICC Chairman unopposed?

Jay Shah has been elected as the ICC Chairman without opposition, taking over from Greg Barclay, who held the position for two consecutive terms over the past four years. Barclay had announced he wouldn’t seek a third term, and the ICC’s 15 board members had until August 27 to submit nominations for the next chairman. Jay Shah was the only candidate, and no one else contested the election.

With no other nominees, the ICC confirmed Jay Shah as the next chairman. His term will begin on December 1. In the election process, out of the 16 ICC board members, a candidate needs nine votes to win. Shah received support from 15 members, but the identity of the one member who did not support him is still unknown.

Given the overwhelming support, there was no need for a formal election, and this marks the first time the ICC board has united behind a single candidate so strongly. At 35, Jay Shah will become the youngest ICC Chairman ever. Here’s a look at why he was elected unopposed for this top role.
