BCCI has penalized Rishabh Pant, the captain of Delhi Capitals, and the entire team following their second consecutive slow over rate violation in IPL 2024.

This breach occurred during their match against Kolkata Knight Riders in Visakhapatnam during the 17th season of IPL.

In an official statement, the BCCI stated, “Rishabh Pant, the captain of Delhi Capitals, has been fined for the team’s slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on April 3.”

Pant received a fine of ₹24 lakh, while other members of the Delhi Capitals XI, including the Impact Player, Abishek Porel, were fined either ₹6 lakh or 25% of their match fees.

This is the second over-rate violation for Delhi Capitals this season, resulting in a higher fine for Pant and individual fines for other players. Previously, Pant was fined ₹12 lakh for a similar offense during their match against Chennai Super Kings at the same venue.

Sunil Narine hit 85 runs fast, and Angkrish Raghuvanshi, a new player, scored 54 runs well in his first IPL game for KKR.

They made KKR reach 272/7, almost the highest score ever in IPL. The Capitals didn’t do well in the game, both batting and bowling. They struggled under pressure.

Even though Rishabh Pant scored 55 runs and Tristan Stubbs scored 54, the Capitals couldn’t win.

They got all out for 166 runs, losing their third game of the season. Now they’re at No.9 in the IPL 2024 table, with a bad net run rate.

In the post-match interview, Pant expressed his thoughts on the match. “Our bowlers didn’t do well today. It was just one of those days when we didn’t play good,” he acknowledged. Despite the loss, he remained firm in the team’s approach, stating, “We wanted to keep attacking as a batting team. I prefer the team to play aggressive cricket rather than being defensive.”
